Pearland City Council Approves Historic Meet and Confer Agreement

On September 28, Pearland City Council unanimously approved the Meet and Confer Agreement between the City of Pearland and the Pearland Professional Firefighters Association.

The agreement marks a historic first in nearly 80 years of the Pearland Fire Department and represents something our members have worked hard to bring forward.

For PPFA, this process was about building on the protections already provided through Civil Service while finding opportunities to improve the processes and professional standards within our department. Pay and benefits were not part of these discussions.

Instead, the agreement focuses on areas such as professional development, promotional opportunities, education, training, and recognizing the experience our firefighters bring to the department.

Our members pursued Meet and Confer because we believe strong standards within the Fire Department directly benefit the community we serve. Investing in our firefighters and creating better processes within the department helps us continue providing Pearland residents with the level of service they expect and deserve.

Reaching this agreement required months of conversations and collaboration between PPFA and the City. We appreciate Pearland City Council, the City Manager’s Office, Fire Administration, and everyone who came to the table and worked through this process with us.

This agreement is an important step forward for our members and the Pearland Fire Department, with the ultimate goal of continuing to provide the best possible service to our community.
