At the Pearland Fire Department, fire and EMS are not separate services. They are one and the same. The same firefighters who respond to structure fires, rescues, and disasters are the same professionals staffing our ambulances and providing advanced medical care.
We staff 6 full time MICU ambulances serving our community 24 hours a day. MICU stands for Mobile Intensive Care Unit. In Texas, that is the highest level of pre hospital care available.
When you call 911, you are not just getting transportation to a hospital. You are getting intensive care level treatment brought directly to you.
Advanced Medical Care in the Field
Each ambulance is staffed by Firefighter EMTs and Firefighter Paramedics who operate under progressive and aggressive medical protocols. These protocols are designed to give patients the best possible outcome during life threatening emergencies.
Our units are equipped with:
• Advanced cardiac monitoring
• A full range of emergency medications
• Advanced airway equipment
• Whole blood for transfusions
• Portable ultrasound
• Advanced trauma care equipment
In many cases, we are able to begin hospital level interventions within minutes of arrival.
Cardiac, Trauma, and Critical Care Capabilities
Cardiac emergencies require immediate action. Our Firefighter Paramedics are trained in Advanced Cardiac Life Support. This includes advanced heart monitoring, electrical therapy when needed, medication administration, and coordinated cardiac resuscitation.
We also provide advanced trauma care in the field. From severe bleeding control and whole blood transfusions to chest procedures that relieve life threatening pressure, our crews are trained and equipped to manage critical injuries before arrival at the hospital.
Our portable ultrasound units allow paramedics to see internal injuries in real time. This helps guide treatment decisions and improves patient care during transport.
Specialized Pediatric Care
Children require specialized knowledge and equipment. Our firefighters are trained in advanced pediatric life support and carry pediatric specific equipment to care for critically ill or injured children.
From breathing emergencies to trauma to cardiac arrest, we are prepared to treat patients of all ages.
Medical Oversight and Accountability
High level care requires strong medical leadership. Our system operates under a highly trained and highly qualified Emergency Care Medical Director who provides direct physician oversight.
We also maintain a comprehensive Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement program. Critical calls are reviewed. Training is continuous. Protocols are evaluated and updated based on current medical evidence.
This ensures that the care delivered in Pearland is advanced, consistent, and accountable.
